🐫 Puff the magic camel lives in Fort Chiswell, VA. And he is stately…and slobbery…and awesome.

There were epic screams of joy as Puff the camel made he way round the bus. Such a great memory!

Part II in our Virginia adventure - Fort Chiswell Animal Park. The safari exceeded all expectations. The animals were interactive, quirky and FUN - and the tour guide was super knowledgeable. Before the tour, we face-to-face fed Llamas, Alpacas, small deer and the sweetest old tortoise. They also have monkeys, a porcupine, parrots and a few other critters to enjoy!

Great hike! Near Abington and Damascus, VA. Not too difficult - but there is a steep climb toward the end. The reel says it all (sound on.) Give Justin from @whiteblaze_outdoors a call - he can guide you to the parking lot (a bit tricky to find) - to and through the channels. He was amazing with my family! We may not have found a few of the things I wanted to see without him. Highly recommend!

Also - peep the @theandibrand backpack on my kiddo! Love, love! I used those top handles to hold her on some of the challenging parts!

🔥 CHILI SEASON! Where are my #cleaneating people?! This one is #paleo 🙌

Recipe below. Also a shout out to @barebonesliving for my new favorite outdoor chili pot and cooking gear. Seriously awesome stuff - functional, rugged and totally handsome.

Ingredient wrap-up:
(But you guys know me. My seasoning is not an exact science.) The measurements below are a great place to start….
- 2 lbs grass-fed ground beef
- 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed (spicy or sweet)
- ½ pound sugar free bacon
- 2 cans diced tomatoes with juice (plain or with seasoning, your choice!)
- 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
- 1 large yellow onion, chopped
- 1 large sweet potato, peeled and chopped into small chunks
- 2 cups beef stock or bone broth (check label to ensure paleo)
- 1 ½ tablespoons minced garlic
- 1½ tablespoons dried oregano
- ½ tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- ¾ teaspoon cayenne pepper (more or less to taste)

How-to:
- in a 350 preheated oven, cook the bacon on cookie sheets (with raised edges!!) until crispy. I prefer to bake my bacon, less mess. Cook time varies significantly as cuts of bacon can be very different! Just keep an eye on it after 15 minutes.
- In a large stock pot over medium high heat, cook ground beef and sausage. Cook until evenly browned - drain grease.
- In a separate pan, cook the diced onion until translucent.
- Add onion and cooked bacon (crumbled) AND the bacon drippings to the stock pot.
- Add all other ingredients EXCEPT for the sweet potatoes
- Simmer on low heat for about 1 hour - then add sweet potatoes.
- Simmer for another hour, adjust seasonings and salt.
- Boom, you’re done.

🍸’Early’ #mixology is BACK! I’ve been tinkering with this @sakeoneoregon saké to create a beverage - and I #nailedit. I am obsessed with the clean saké flavor mixed with just the right about of #ginger spice and lime. And did I mention this is EASY?!

👉 Here are the deets
In a pint glass..
- Glass full of ice
- 1.5 oz saké one g fifty saké
- 3 oz SPICY natural ginger beer
- .05 oz fresh lime juice

Garnish
- Thin slices of fresh ginger. )I used a mandolin slicer)
- Lime zest
- Lime wedge

Combine ingredients in glass, stir to combine. Slide slices of ginger into the glass and press along the side of the glass (I used a spoon to guide the slices)

Saturday night was @fishforacure It was a great time - but this year, I am feeling overwhelmed with gratitude. The magnitude of what has been accomplished by F4AC in 16 years is just amazing.

Hundreds of people with hundreds of ‘why’ stories - all supporting their community hospital @luminishealth Anne Arundel Medical Center - specifically the cancer institute.

This year - pushing past the madness of COVID, we raised over $575,000. Guys - that goes STRAIGHT to AAMC, helping to fund salaries of Nurse Navigators, nutritional support and financial navigators. This is just so awesome to me.

To date, we have raised a cumulative 4.5 MILLION DOLLARS in the Paul C. Dettor Captain’s Challenge. EVERY PENNY of that money has gone to AAMC for direct patient support.

I’ve been on the F4AC Board for 9 years now. The gratitude I am feeling today is coming from reflection - looking back at how we all busted out asses to raise more, do more, share more, to tell the stories that built F4AC.

Today, we have an army of amazing donors, volunteers, helpers and sponsors. YOU GUYS keep the machine going now. @blue_jay_89er37 lit the fire - the F4AC Board threw logs on the fire and now YOU are fanning the flames.

We can’t continue to do this without each and every one of you.

Personal note - many of you know my father lost his battle to lung cancer 6 months ago. This world is at such a loss without his huge spirit. My heart is broken. But everything I do has a little piece of him. I love a deeper, try harder, forgive myself and others with greater ease. All in his memory.

Fish was deeper for me this year. I was quieter - but the experience was deep.

@erniearizzi is now on the awesome F4AC team Lady Jen with @scaturroken and @jenscaturro . Watch out, next year, I am going to get the Lady Jen marketing machine going and we’ll keep making those waves…bigger and stronger….and louder.
