I think we’re almost ready for a proper date night out. It’s been at least three months! COVID threw us for a loop but we survived. Our littles went a tad feral, I learned how to shop for enough food to last our large family for two weeks at a time, I learned that I (mostly) love homeschooling my kids, and I finally got back on my spin bike. There were so many ups and downs, but largely, this has been a tremendously eye-opening experience.
We were so fortunate. No jobs were lost and I was able to fairly easily transition to homeschooling. Don’t get me started on the math curriculum though – in ‘mommy school’ my little kid LEARNED TO CARRY THE ONE. Did you even know that is NOT a thing in modern curriculum anymore? Well, it’s not. Crazy, but true. I digress….
My herd and I embarked on this unimaginable journey together.
Two adults, two teens and two littles – under one roof – for months.
WE ALL SURVIVED.
Looking back, I’m really proud of all that we learned together and all that we accomplished. I’m proud of the storms we weathered and the lessons we learned. I’m surprisingly lax about what we didn’t accomplish and I feel closer to everyone.
Hindsight is always 20/20; I’m left with tremendous gratitude and a new appreciation for each of my children, their strengths and talents – and a better understanding of their needs and vulnerabilities.
All of that said, I need a delicious beverage – somewhere OUTSIDE of my home, with the man I love who gives so much to his family. The world has just started to open up again, and I believe now is our time. This momma needs a drink.
